Description:
Deya (Deia officially in Catalan) is a municipality in the autonomous community of Balearic Islands, Spain. Located in the region of the Sierra de Tramuntana on the island of Mallorca. It borders the municipalities of Valldemossa, Sóller and Buñola.

The first inhabitants of this small town goes back to the prehítória.

Its agriculture-based economy needed a great effort of the people, building the ´marges´ (dry stone walls forming terraces) to grow, because
rugged terrain.

Its name from the Muslim period X-XII century ´Ad CS´ means village.

Up to 1,583 Deiá was part of the municipality of Valldemossa.

In the late nineteenth century, people were interested in this important figures, artists and bohemians. The more important the Archduke Luis Salvador of Austria, the musician Manuel de Falla, Russiñol, Leman and Junyer, poets Laura Riding and Robert Graves, author of ´I Claudius´, whose remains lie in the cemetery of the village with a simple headstone.

Today about 900 people, its main industry is tourism, like the rest of the islands.

It has three museums: The parish works of art related to the temple. The Archaeological Museum with findings from several sites in the area and the Archduke Luis Salvador in Son Marroig, where you can see memories of your stay and paintings by Joan Bauçà, Joaquin Mir and Ribas Prats, ceramics Phoenician, Greek and Roman.

You can visit the house of Robert Graves ´Can n´Alluny´ and the Parish of the fifteenth century.
Other places to visit include: La Cala de Deia, at the mouth of the Torrente Mayor, ideal for swimming. Sa Foradada, beautiful postcard, Puig Teix with 1,064 m of altitude and the Caragolí., With several viewpoints.

Like any tourist area has several hotels and pensions, without missing bars, restaurants and cafes.
